How to make a perfect gnome with Erich Griebel           

 

The special ingredient!		Gnome pieces being assembled

 

• To create the perfect gnome you need special clay and the skills of a creative craftsman preferably with years of experience.

• Clay - A special mix of Thuringian clay and 'secret' ingredients.

• From the original pattern/model a plaster mould is made

• The secret mix is then poured into the mould.

• When the clay has stabilized, the mould is taken apart, and the new gnome can be taken out.

   

• The gnome is left to dry out.

• The gnome is then  rubbed down and polished to remove all seams and blemishes.

• The gnome is then placed in the kiln at a temperature of 1800ºF

• The gnome is then ready for painting. A skilled porcelain painter starts first on the gnomes face and beard, then the clothing, and last but not least - the red hat.

• Once the Gnomes are all painted, they are packed carefully and then sent to their new home.
