The special ingredient! |
Gnome pieces being assembled |
To create the perfect gnome you need special clay and the skills of a creative craftsman preferably with years of experience.
Clay - A special mix of Thuringian clay and 'secret' ingredients.
From the original pattern/model a plaster mould is made
The secret mix is then poured into the mould.
When the clay has stabilized, the mould is taken apart, and the new gnome can be taken out.
The gnome is left to dry out.
The gnome is then rubbed down and polished to remove all seams and blemishes.
The gnome is then placed in the kiln at a temperature of 1800ºF
The gnome is then ready for painting. A skilled porcelain painter starts first on the gnomes face and beard, then the clothing, and last but not least - the red hat.
Once the Gnomes are all painted, they are packed carefully and then sent to their new home.
