An Airdrie family recently
experienced an uncanny visit from several alien creatures from around
the community.
Tammy Woods awoke one morning last week to find that the front lawn,
trees and garden of her Tanner Drive home had been invaded by garden
gnomes of all shapes, sizes and species.
"It was quite the funny situation," Woods said.
The unexpected visitors were first discovered on the morning of July 19
by Woods’ son, who was on his way to work around 5:30 a.m. What
surprised the family even more than the appearance of a couple dozen
small figures lounging around the property, was that none of the family
had heard anything during the night, despite the fact that the windows
had been left open and Kia, the family’s Rottweiler, was supposedly on
guard.
"We were quite shocked," Woods said.
Now, Woods is looking for the owners of the gnomes, which range from
regular garden gnomes to stone figurines to wooden ducks.
"We have everything from angels right to turtles," she said. "Some of
them have names."
As such, she is hoping people in the community will recognize them and
come forward to claim the lost creatures, who no doubt are quite
confused and homesick.
"Please help to find their homes," Woods said, adding that she has
reported the incident to local RCMP in the hope of returning the gnomes
to their rightful owners.
However, she added, if someone wants to foot the bill, she’d be more
than happy to take the group on a worldwide excursion and mail home
photos of all of them from each stop.
At the soonest available opportunity, Woods will be taking the figurines
to the Airdrie RCMP detachment. For now, though, anyone who is missing a
garden statue is asked to e-mail Woods at her office at: tammywoods@shawgmc.com
for identification.
Although the gnomes were technically trespassing on Woods’ property,
police will not be pressing charges against them.
